The truth about what is “billing-problem@amazon.com”

The email address billing-problem@amazon.com is being used by cyber criminals to try to get people to give their credit card details. I’m sure at date you are currently asking about this email because you haven’t made any payments and yet you receive one telling you the transaction has been completed  or there has been some problem and some of the details about you in the email are not correct whilst some may be correct. Here is the truth of the whole matter. This is a trick that has been used by many scammers in the past years.

What they want to do is simply get your credit card details. If you follow the instructions on the email they send you make sure you don’t  get tricked into giving them you PayPal credentials or bank details or whatever Payment method they may have to offer. Once you do that they will steal your credit card details and use those to charge your card money and lately it has been getting hard to get PayPal to send you a refund after being scammed because of the advancement of the tricks  scammers have been using. Below are some of the scam signs to help you out.

Scam signs

1.When you know you haven’t made any such transactions or have not attempted to then you can be sure it has nothing to do with you.

2. When the email has a name that is not yours

3. When the email address has a credit card number or last digits of the credit card that do not belong to you

One thing that may worry people is the fact that the email address is one that looks legit. But here is what they do, the scammers practice what is known as email spoofing so that the header of the email has the legit email address whilst the real email address that you will reply to is that of the scammers. Another thing is where they got your email address of details at times they may buy these from other websites you may have left your details which are not trustworthy and at times from social media accounts.

Conclusion

When you get an email like this one and you feel that it doesn’t seem right all you have to do is ignore the email and delete it and nothing will happen. If you try to follow what they will tell you to do you will end up losing a lot of money or having your card hacked. If you have also had some email please leave a sample and a report to help us help others. If you have more questions about what is “billing-problem@amazon.com” please leave a comment below.

How I wish we got this information pretty soon enough to prevent my wife getting scammed. Actually, she got this email and proceeded with all the other details since she thought it was real. Thankfully that we were able to stop short the amount being used on the card already. Though we are still repaying the loan but it is much better

Hi! First of all thanks for making us conscious. It was an understandable and useful article. I have a question, and I would be very happy if you could help.
Unfortunately, I got one of these mails. All I did was open the mail. I didn’t click on any bar code. I read the long paragraph. At the end of 5 days, my cloud account and everything connected to my e-mail would be sent to deepweb. Obviously, it was a bit convincing, a little scared. When I delete this mail, another mail just came and it says “Login Approved”. Then I just tried to open my account at outlook.com and said, “There was an issue looking up your account. Tap Next to try again.” When I received the warning I was thoroughly scared. I changed my password somehow, but I still couldn’t. Finally I turned off the modem. I reopened it. I’ve been able to get into my account, but I’m still in trouble. I changed the mail to which my game accounts are linked, I linked it to another account. Can I access my cloud accounts just because I opened the mail? Do I need to format the computer and phone?
Thanks in advance for your help.

I don’t think you should format your items. As long as you could reset your password I think you are safe. Wait and see how it goes.

Thank you so much for your explanation. I got this scam email and fortunately, I didn’t take any action and hit Report Spam button. However, my aunt almost got scammed. It’s a bit hard to differentiate an email as scam or not if you’re not really a techie person, especially for elders. I will tell my aunt about your article. Thanks
